Senior Care of Colorado provides high-quality, personalized medical care exclusively to older adults throughout the Denver Metro area and beyond.

Our clinicians see patients in more than 250 different nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

“Our goal as clinicians is to maximize our patients’ quality of life and ability to function well. And respecting the patient’s individual wishes and desires is an important part of that process. Sometimes that even means reducing the number of medications they’re taking. Or gaining a thorough understanding of the psycho-social issues that affect their lives.”
     ~ Donald J. Murphy, MD

"Finally, I've found a doctor who listens to me and involves me in making good, informed choices about my medical care."
Our providers regularly write articles and give talks on topics of interest to older adults. Click here to read more.

Our dedicated doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and licensed clinical social workers are specially-trained in geriatrics and work in close cooperation with one another.

We care for our patients in the office, in their homes, at nursing and assisted living facilities. We work with specialists and hospitalists who provide expert day-to-day hospital care.

“People told us we were crazy; they said it would never work.” says Mike Wasserman, M.D. “But we remained undaunted and kept moving forward.” You see, he and partner Don Murphy, M.D., had an ambitious vision: a dream of creating a successful Medicare-only private practice to serve exclusively seniors in the Denver area. So the two board-certified geriatricians (physicians who specialize in the care of older adults) took a leap of faith in 2001 and founded Senior Care of Colorado, P.C.

“Compassion is vitally important with our patients—the ability to communicate, to listen, to empathize with their problems. Only by creating a dialog with the patient can we understand what they really want.”

“I like caring for people, especially children and elderly people. As a physician assistant, I get to spend time with my patients to really listen; I give them time and let them get everything that’s troubling them off their chests.”

The Holiday Blues

Recognizing the Signs of Depression in Seniors
by Michael Wasserman, MD
Co-Founder, Senior Care of Colorado, PC

For many, seasonal holidays represent a time for happiness and celebration. However, for countless others, they also usher in feelings of depression. In the senior population, signs of depression can be quite subtle. Loss of appetite and increasing isolation may be the only signs. Many seniors are affected by losses. These losses can take on greater significance during the holidays. People are reminded that loved ones are no longer there to share the holidays with them. Children have obligations and may not realize that their parents or grandparents look forward to a visit or a phone call.

Honest Medicine

"In a warmhearted, practical manner Murphy argues that most older people are overmedicated, overtested, harassed, and made needlessly anxious about health problems. . . . Honest Medicine is a gentle geriatrician's reassuring book that combines common sense with information from the most recent clinical studies."
